The organ in St Thomas' church Hanwell is arguably the finest in the area. It was built in 1897 and moved to St Thomas' when the church was opened in the 1930s.

The specification of the organ makes it ideal for accompanying hymns and other church music, and it's also got the potential to be a fine recital instrument. But it needs overhauling, a task that will cost over £100,000; an amount beyond the means of the congregation alone. The church has set up a website at www.hanwellorgan.org.uk to let our community know what's going on at St. Thomas’ to raise the funds, to give people the chance to get involved if they want, and, above all, to let our community find out about the ‘hidden gem’ that is St. Thomas’s’ – a wonderful Grade 2* listed building designed by the eminent architect Sir Edward Maufe.

The first of the events planned and the ’kick-off’ to the fundraising is “An Evening with Lesley Garrett” on Saturday 28th May at 7:30pm in St. Thomas’ Church on Boston Road, Hanwell

This will be an evening of reminiscence and chat with Lesley Garrett. The evening will include stories, anecdotes and a question and answer session with the audience, and Lesley will perform a few songs accompanied by piano.

Wherever this has been staged it has sold out.

The box office is now open, tickets are £20.00 and can be reserved by calling 07850 889948 or by email by visiting the ‘Contact’ page at www.hanwellorgan.org.uk.
