There are a number of events taking place over the Jubilee weekend to mark the occasion of Her Majesty The Queen becoming the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service.

With the extended bank holiday on Thursday, 2 and Friday, 3 June, many residents are joining in with the celebrations with their friends and neighbours. Nearly 150 street parties have been approved by the council to take place between 2-5 June.

Ealing Council will also be lighting beacons on the evening of 2 June to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in Walpole Park, Ealing and Northala Fields, Northolt.

The beacons will be lit at 9.45pm at both locations. If you plan to attend, you are advised to arrive by 9pm.

On Sunday, 5 June, residents are invited to bring a picnic to Walpole Park, or purchase refreshments from local businesses.

The Big Jubilee Lunch aims to be an accessible, family-friendly event. There will be a funfair, bouncy castle, and other fun activities, and the park will be decked with bunting and entertainment will take place throughout the afternoon.

The afternoon kicks off with the UFO Steelband, followed by Jham!, a production from Srishti that fuses beatboxing, saxophone, and classical Indian dance. There will be more dance from Cody Studios, whose members have performed with the likes of Eve and Mel C, and music from Blues Dharma (guitar meets south Indian lute) and PRSSV’s high-energy tabla players. Young people from Ealing will also be joining in with performances from SA Dance, Luna Dance, Voices Singing School, and the young producers at Bollo Brook Youth Centre.

Tickets are not required for the Big Jubilee Lunch. Simply turn up and find a spot to join in the activities.

On the evening of Sunday, 5 June, Ealing Symphony Orchestra will be performing live in Walpole Park in a free ticketed event celebrating Her Majesty’s historic reign.

The orchestra, joined by a guest singer, will be performing a programme, combining Last Night of the Proms favourites alongside allusions to Ealing’s history and culture, with an opportunity for everyone to join in as the Jubilee weekend is taken to a grand finale with fireworks.

The Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Munir Ahmed, the leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Peter Mason, the Queen’s representative Deputy Lieutenant, Graham Neame, local Perivale ward councillors and children from Coston’s Primary School have planted a walnut tree in Perivale Park as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy.

Council Leader Peter Mason said: “The Platinum Jubilee weekend is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community and mark the 70 years of service by Her Majesty the Queen – please join us in Walpole Park as the celebrations continue to mark this historic occasion.

“I am delighted the council has been able to support nearly 150 street parties across the borough with grants and street closures over the bank holiday weekend.

“I am also very proud to announce that Ealing Council has been recognised as a Platinum Council for its Jubilee Plans.”
