Hanwell Carnival Gets Set for Its Quasquicentennial
Event will be celebrating its 125th anniversary this year

Quasquicentennial is not a word I’d ever really come across.
Turns out it’s the official, posh word for a 125th anniversary. Which is perfect for this year’s Hanwell Carnival (Saturday 17 June) as that’s the milestone that this redoubtable, volunteer-led community event has reached.
As ever the day will kick off with a parade from Hanwell Community Centre to Elthorne Park on Boston Road where, over the course of the afternoon, up to 20 thousand people will be entertained by a music – which this year is being staged by the Hanwell Hootie (as the full scale Hootie is taking a break) the Community Stage – under the skilled hands of Westside – Hanwell’s Community Radio.
There are trade stalls where local businesses sell their wares and International, national and local charities can publicise their work and raise much needed funds. More important than ever at the moment when money is so tight.

Lots of people think it’s an event under the auspices of Ealing Council. Not true. The whole thing is planned and run entirely by volunteers from the community.
