Could you be a VIP and lead the Hanwell Carnival this year?

hanwell carnival

The theme is Fairytale in Hanwell and the hunt is on for Hanwell Carnival Royalty (Queen, princess and prince) for the traditional parade.

Candidates for the Queen need to be at least 18 years old, while the princess and prince must be eight years or over. The only other criteria are that applicants must be proud of where they live and excited about becoming a community champion. The ability to cast a magic spell might also come in handy.

Candidates can apply via the Hanwell Carnival website or through its Facebook page. Selection will occur at an event in Hanwell Community Centre on Sunday 24 April from 3-5pm.

Last year, about 400 people took part in the parade, half of whom were children. There were two live bands, five large trucks, two vintage double decker buses and 20 other vehicles. The parade starts at the community centre in Westcott Crescent and makes its way through Hanwell, watched and cheered by thousands of well-wishers, to Elthorne Park.

Hanwell Carnival will take place on Saturday 18 June. Entry is free.
