Sold Out! Ealing Half Marathon is This Sunday

Local support needed for the fifth year of the EHM

Ealing Half Marathon

The fifth Ealing Half Marathon takes place this Sunday 25th September and has sold over 7,000 places to runners of all ages and abilities.

General places have all been taken and entries are now closed for this popular race which has been voted the UK’s best half marathon for the last three years by runners at the Running Awards.

The Ealing Half Marathon is well known for its huge community support and lively atmosphere. Set up as a legacy to London’s Olympic Games in 2012, this multi award-winning West London event attracts runners from all over the UK and abroad wanting to experience the #EalingFeeling.

The race will be started by local superstar James Linney, who was so inspired by the 2012 Olympics that he set himself the challenge of trying every Olympic sport by the time the Rio Games began this year. Running with the Ealing Eagles running club twice a week, James now favours running above all the other sports he has tried, and once he has started the Ealing Half Marathon he will be jumping in to be one of the race pacers.

The Ealing Half Marathon starts at 9.00am with the start, finish and race village in Lammas Park. It features a 13.1-mile route on closed roads around the leafy streets and parks of the West London Borough.

The Ealing Mini Mile, places to which are also sold out, takes place at 9.15am and will see young runners of all levels aged 6-16 covering a one-mile route around Lammas Park.

Race day key timings:

  • 07:00 – Race HQ including baggage marquees open
  • 08:30 – Group warm up
  • 08.45 – Runners enter the start funnel according to expected finish time
  • 09:00 – Ealing Half Marathon race start
  • 09:15 – Ealing Mini Mile race start
  • 10:05 – First Ealing Half Marathon finishers expected
  • 11:30 – Prize presentation ceremony
  • 12:00 – Last finishers
  • 13:30 – Race HQ closes

Road closures will come into effect before the start of the race, but the Race HQ in Lammas Park is very well served by public transport.

Spectators are encouraged to see the best of the action at the following vantage points, some of which benefit from seeing the runners pass twice: Uxbridge Road, Drayton Bridge Road, Pitshanger Lane and Cuckoo Avenue.

A field of international runners will be lining the start line on Sunday 25th September, as well as beginners, charity runners and club runners – including many Ealing Eagles alongside James Linney.

Thames Hare & Hounds runner Alice Braham is a strong contender in the women’s race, having come second in 2015 with a time of 1:19:06. She will be looking to beat Teresiah Omosa of Run-Fast from Kenya, last year’s winner with a time of 1:16:32. Worthing athlete Rebecca Moore is expected to join them at the front of the field. Meanwhile in the men’s race, Josphat Kemei from Run-Fast and Jonathan Poole from Serpentine will be hoping to beat Christopher Cheruiyot’s 2015 winning time of 1:05:41.

Race pacers will again be provided by Xempo Race Pacing, helping runners to hit their target time on race day. Xempo pace makers will be clearly identifiable and will be guiding runners aiming for times of: 1h30, 1h40, 1h50, 2h00, 2h10, 2h20 and 2h30.

Race Director Kelvin Walker commented:

“As in previous years the Ealing Half Marathon has sold out its public places well in advance of race day, and this year’s race is looking to be the biggest and best yet. We would like to thank everyone who has supported the race to make it such a fantastic community event, our partners, local businesses and residents. A big thank also goes to the runners who keep coming back to support Ealing Half Marathon year after year, and we wish them all the best for their race on Sunday.

“As a Community Interest Company, the event is hugely important in raising funds that are invested straight back into schools and community events, as part of our commitment to make sport and fitness available to all.

“We are looking forward to welcoming a strong field to the start line this year, as well as thousands of first time and club runners. Each race helps to spread a little more of the #EalingFeeling, putting our borough firmly on the map of high profile running events.”

The organisers of the Ealing Half Marathon are hoping to top previous fundraising figures with many signed up to run for one of the race’s three headline charities: Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Research UK and CLIC Sargent. In the last two years the race has raised over £900,000 for various charities and it continues to be a unique fundraising opportunity.
