Ealing Choral Society, is presenting an evening of well-loved carols and Christmas readings followed by mince pies and wine - and the proceeds all go to charity.

This year Ealing Choral Society has chosen Save the Children.

Right now, Save the Children teams are on the ground in West Africa responding to the Ebola outbreak which has killed more than 5,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. They are running treatment centres for patients, supporting children and raising awareness of how to prevent infection.

Back in the UK, 40% of our poorest children leave primary school without being able to read well. In Ealing, Save the Children volunteers support pupils with their reading in schools and run a programme bringing together families, schools and the community to create opportunities for learning and development at home.

The Christmas celebration will take place on Saturday 13 December at St. Barnabas Church, Pitshanger Lane, W5, starting at 7pm.

Members of the audience can join in with familiar favourites. The Choir, conducted by Jonathan Williams, will sing a variety of traditional pieces, including Stille Nacht. This iconic carol has been translated into 140 languages and, during the Christmas truce on the Western Front in 1914, was sung simultaneously by troops in German, French and English, as it was the only carol all sides knew.

BBC Journalist and Broadcaster John Sergeant and Cleveland Ward Councillor Lynne Murray will be among those reading seasonal poems and short pieces.

Clayton Ricketts, Regional Fundraising Manager, Save the Children, said, ''We are delighted to be supported by Ealing Choral Society’s Carol Concert this year. It will be a wonderful event and the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of children both in the UK and abroad. "

Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for those aged 16 and under. Tickets go fast, so it is advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment at the door.

The proceeds from this concert will be matched by the UK Government, thus doubling the value of donations on the evening.
