Gardeners will be able to get their green-fingers on 10 tonnes of compost being given away by Ealing Council at Walpole Park on Saturday 12 May.

The giveaway from 10am to 5pm, marks Compost Awareness Week from Sunday 6 to Saturday 12 May.

The compost is made from recycled food and garden waste collected from homes across west London. Residents are asked to come to the event at the Mattock Lane vehicle entrance of the park with their own bags, containers and shovels because the compost will be loose. There will be a limit on the quantity that can be taken by each person – approximately 90 litres.

Staff from the council’s recycling team and the West London Waste Authority will also be on hand with information and advice on composting.

Roger Jones, Director of Environment and Leisure said: “Good compost helps you get your plants and veg off to a flying start and is a good way to recycle garden waste.
“If you’d like to start making your own compost there are reduced prices on compost bins for residents. Compost can be made using garden waste, as well as everyday waste items such as peelings, teabags, coffee grounds and filter paper and scrunched up newspaper and cardboard."

The council, in partnership with Straight Plc, is offering residents reduced prices on compost bins. Prices start at £15. Telephone 0845 130 60 90 for further details or visit
