Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans
1927 93 minutes cert U silent with English intertitles
Directed by F.W. Murnau
starring George O’Brien, Janet Gaynor, Margaret Livingston

A young couple reaches a crucial crisis in their marriage, and getting away to the big city gives them an evening of heady pleasures, leaving them and the audience wonderstruck by a funfair and dancehall, evoked through some of the most impressive camera tricks and expressionist photography of the era. This sensuous and spectacular melodrama was shot by forests, lakes and rivers in California and Oregon, as well as huge studio sets. It was voted the 5th greatest film of all time in Sight and Sound’s 2012 poll. Winner of best cinematography, best actress and Best Picture – Unique and Artistic Production at the first Academy Awards. Showing with the original Movietone soundtrack, with a synchronized musical score and sound effects.

Films are shown at Ealing Town Hall on Fridays at 7:30pm followed by a discussion about the film.

Tickets are £7 / £6 concessions and available at the door and online. Membership prices are cheaper!
