Packed events line up including Open House Weekend
Open House London is an annual event that runs from 15 - 16 September 2007 . The capital's biggest architectural event is about seeing, experiencing, exploring and understanding architecture. Over 600 of London's buildings - including Ealing's Grade I listed Pitzhanger Manor-House - will be open to the public. Visitors can explore Pitzhanger independently or enjoy one of our tours or even take part in a stonecarving workshop. Tours of Pitzhanger Manor-House, Saturday 15th September and Sunday 16th September Pitzhanger was owned and designed by revered British Architect Sir John Soane (1800 - 1810). To discover the stories behind Soane's former country retreat, visitors can partipate in tours on Saturday beginning at 11am, 1pm & 3pm or Sunday, beginning at 1pm and 3pm. Tours are free and there is no need to book. Stonecarving Workshop in Pitzhanger Lodge, Saturday 15th September 1pm - 4pm The recently restored Pitzhanger Lodge is the setting for a unique workshop experience. Join the stonemasons who worked on the conservation and repair of Pitzhanger's Grade I listed entrance arch for an introduction to stonecarving. No experience is necessary. Tickets: £9 conc £7 Ealing Green Walk, Sunday 16th September Stroll through the historic heart of old Ealing, taking in many listed buildings and notable residents. The meeting point for this tour is Pitzhanger Manor-House, where tea and coffee will be served from 10am. A short tour of Pitzhanger will begin at 10.30am before moving onto Ealing Green at 11.15am. The tour will finish at St Mary's Parish Church at 12.30pm. Pitzhanger Manor-House reading group Starts Wednesday 19th September 10.30am-11.45am Meeting monthly on 3rd Wednesday of each month Sep 2007 - March 2008. A new themed book group meeting in the luxurious surroundings of a Georgian manor-house. Books will be selected that complement the wonderful setting and will explore architecture, design, cities, history, through both fiction and non-fiction.
