Dangerous weapon found after a fight in Southall

A teenager convicted of wielding a 'zombie-killer' knife in Ealing has been jailed.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified, was arrested on 12 October 2016 after he was seen carrying a large knife, later found abandoned nearby, in the middle of a large group of people fighting in Kenilworth Gardens, Southall.

He was found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon and using threatening and abusive words after a trial at Ealing Magistrates' Court on 14 February which proved he was the person who dropped the knife.

The teenager was sentenced to an 18 month detention and training order on 4 April at Ealing Magistrates’ Court and given a three year criminal behaviour order.

The order bans him from carrying any knife or bladed article, associating with named gang members, carrying any item associated with drug use or drug dealing, carrying more than £50 cash, carrying more than one mobile phone or SIM card or a mobile phone not registered in his name, and entering the borough of Ealing except for a pre-arranged appointment.

CPS London reviewing lawyer Neil Hoodless said: “The 'zombie-slayer'-style knife in this case was seven inches in length with an extra three inch blade.

"These weapons - and the sale of them - have been banned for a reason and if you carry one you will be prosecuted.”
