Instead of wasting money buying anymore Christmas 'tat' why not put it to something more useful and help those less fortunate?

One local charity - Ealing Soup Kitchen - has put out an appeal for donations of good quality sleeping bags which they plan to hand out in January and February.

Andrew McLeay says they will have an outreach team helping the people who don't use their services, and are out on the streets:

'' So we know where a few of them are and we want to get about 80 sleeping bags to go out and hand them all out over one or two nights. They could provide someone homeless with warmth this winter, which you can't really put a price on. So decent sleeping bags I think we can get for just over £10. Obviously you can get them for cheaper on ebay but because the winter is pretty vicious, we want to get really good ones, if we can, to help those people through the harshness of the winter.''

The Salvation Army charity shop in West ealing is collecting presents to distribute to local families in need this Christmas.

Here are a few other local charities that could would also benefit from donations:

The Log Cabin

Home Start Ealing

Age UK Ealing

Meadow House Hospice

If you are know of a local charity to add to the list please contact editor@ealingtoday.co.uk and will update.
