Step-free access now available as upgrade works complete
Passengers using West Ealing station this Thursday (25 March) were the first to be able to travel in the newly installed lifts. The main construction project is completed at the station which now has step free access and Network Rail has completed the safety checks to allow TfL Rail to take over operation of the station. Network Rail has built an accessible footbridge with lifts to all platforms, and a new bay platform for Greenford Branch trains was created by widening Platform 4. Work continues at Ealing Broadway where the new ticket gates are in place and the lifts are being installed and tested as well as the ticket office being fitted out. The staff facilities on the first floor need to be completed and the concourse ceiling installed after which the building will be deep cleaned and snagging work will take place to allow the site to be handed over to TfL.
At Southall station, Network Rail has begun the installation of the station building cladding and glazing work. Mechanical and electrical work within the new station building and on the elevated walkway continues, and the brick and block work on the station building is finished.
