Residents in West Ealing had a less than peaceful Easter holiday due to noisy construction work for Crossrail.

Crossrail's upgrade team is carrying out major works over the next six weeks using road rail vehicles, excavators (35 tonne and 5 tonne) and dumpers. The company say the construction has been prioritised in such a way to minimise noise levels at night.

However, over the bank holiday weekend there was heavy machinery piling work and many people took to the social media site twitter furious about the disturbance.

Those living closest to West Ealing station said it was causing their houses to shake:

Crossrail had sent out a bulletin regarding the works and warning that the 'hammer' method of piling over the weekend could be noisy.

It reads:Friday 25 March –Monday 28 March 2016 As we previously advised you in our last bulletin, we will be carrying out foundation piling to the station platforms over the Easter weekend. This will involve both the quieter vibration method of piling(night time), and the hammer method (day time) which is likely to be very noisy.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: ''Public holidays such as Easter are important to us as fewer than half the usual 4.5m people use the railway each day. So carrying out these essential works at these times allows us to do a lot of complex project work in a short space of time while minimising disruption as much as possible.

“We worked hard to make sure our neighbours were informed about the noisy work over Easter but understand that even with some warning it can be inconvenient. We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we progressed the work needed in preparation for the Crossrail programme.''

The schedule of work for the next few weeks should be found here.
