A man from Greenford is one of a group jailed after police found loaded hand guns and a large hunting knife in a car they stopped during the Notting Hill Carnival.

Arron White, 33 of Melville Avenue, Greenford, and Reneico Linton Welsh, 23 , from Milton Keynes were sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday, 19 April to six and a half years (possession of a firearm), five years (ammunition for firearm) and twelve months’ imprisonment (possession of offensive weapon) to be served concurrently.

They were found guilty at the same court on Friday, 2 March to:

- Possession of a firearm (Ekol Arda revolver);
- Possession of ammunition for a firearm;
- Possession of an offensive weapon.

Welsh pleaded guilty to possession of a blank firing pistol with intent to cause fear of violence prior to his trial and was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment to be served concurrently.

Denton Carty, 20 of Barley Close, Wembley and Laquan Gayle, 19 of Compton Road, Brent were sentenced to six and a half years’ (possession of firearm), five years’ (ammunition for firearm) and twelve months’ imprisonment (possession of offensive weapon) to be served concurrently.

They were both found guilty at the same court on Friday, 2 March to:

- Possession of a firearm (revolver);
- Possession of an offensive weapon;
- Possession of ammunition for a firearm.

Jevan Nugent, 19 of Byron Avenue, Brent was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm.

Just before 23:00hrs on Sunday, 27 August 2017, officers from the Brent Gangs Unit were on patrol in the Kensal Green area in the area around the Notting Hill Carnival which was starting the following day, when they attempted to stop a vehicle on Mortimer Road, NW10.

Following a short pursuit, the vehicle eventually stopped in Burrows Road where a number of the passengers decamped.

The driver, Arron White, was detained by officers as he got out of the vehicle. Reneico Linton-Welsh was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

A search of the vehicle by officers uncovered two firearms - an Ekol Arda 4mm Revolver and a BBM 8mm blank firing pistol. Both were loaded. A large hunting knife was also recovered.

White and Linton-Welsh were arrested and charged on Monday, 29 August 2017.

An extensive investigation identified the other occupants of the vehicle, namely Denton Carty and Laquan Gayle who were arrested on 19 September 2017.

Further enquiries identified Jevan Nugent had been in possession of the revolver immediately prior to the stop by police on the vehicle.

Nugent was arrested on Friday, 6 October 2017 and also charged with the same offences.
