The ‘Save Warren Farm’ campaign is arranging  “Pop Up Picnic” on Saturday afternoon to encourage people to go and enjoy and appreciate the land, which is in danger of being swallowed up by QPR football club’s new training ground.

At the moment, the campaigners are crowd funding for the next stage in their 4-year fight – appealing against the judicial review earlier this year.

The picnic is from 12 till 3pm. (Bring your own food & ginger beer).

I have a confession, I have never been there. If you’re the same, here are directions:

Get to the Fox pub on Green Lane. Turn right at the canal and over the foot bridge. Cross the canal at lock 97 by the downstream (left) gate and follow the path up Jubilee Meadow and over the railway level crossing. Climb over the 5-bar gate into Warren Farm and turn left along the mown path.  (No high heels then)

The organisers say there’s loads for nature lovers to spot.  Skylarks, Red Kites Goldfinches, Woodpeckers and owls and for fans of more mechanical airborne objects, the model airplane flying club will be flying ‘tlll around 1pm.

The Save Warren Farm Campaign is a group of nearly 1,700 people who live in Hanwell, Southall, Ealing, wider West London and beyond. They are fighting Ealing Council’s plans to lease most of Warren Farm to QPR who want to build an academy and training facility.  Any space available for community use, would, say the group, be fenced off and tightly controlled.
