Chalk message protest over Ealing Council land 'giveaway'

Campaigners trying to save Warren Farm for community use have posted a 60-metre chalk message on the land to highlight their objections.

In 2013 Ealing Council approved controversial plans for QPR to build a multi-million pound training ground on the Metropolitan Open Land on the Ealing/Southall borders.

Local campaign group Save Warren Farm say the 61 acres of public land worth £31.5million, was 'gifted' to the football club for 200 years - rent free. Despite various legal battles the plans were approved but residents haven't given up their fight.

A group who call themselves 'Our Land' today released images on Twitter of direct action at Warren Farm. They have chalked the message on the grass to make their point that it is community land.

They say: '' Thousands of people across the capital and the country are frustrated at the destruction of natural spaces. This has to stop.

'' We are calling on the Mayor of London, London and UK-wide Councils to protect green space from the unreasonable privatisation of #OurLand. Public land is not for sale or for giving away. It is not a Council or government asset to sell or give to the highest bidder, but a community resource that should be valued. #OurLand was gifted to us by our ancestors. It’s our responsibility to pass it on for future generations: let’s ensure all of London’s green spaces that are accessible today are accessible for (in the future) our children.''
