Children from four primary schools in Ealing have been set a challenge to produce vegetables that can be sold at Waitrose.

The budding Alan Titchmarshes and Charlie Dimmocks were awarded seed kits and have to come up with produce that will be sold in store at a later date as part of Waitrose’s commitment to the local community.

Steve Pound, MP for Ealing North, and Dr Rupa Huq, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Ealing Central and Acton presented the awards as part of the second annual “Grow and Sell” initiative from Waitrose West Ealing on Friday April 25.

Dr Rupa Huq said: “The kids’ enthusiasm today was clear for anyone to see. As a primary school parent myself, I can see this is fantastic scheme as it not only teaches children where food comes from but also hones their entrepreneurial skills.”

“Now let’s all hope the British weather keeps up its side of the bargain!”
