An Ealing care home which looks after vulnerable elderly has been awarding ‘Outstanding’ after a recent inspection.

Turnberry Court is the only care home providing extra care in London to get an ‘outstanding’ status and one of only four nationally to be recognised as ‘outstanding’.

A Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in December 2016 looked at whether Turnberry Court delivered a service that was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, and found in each area that the service was either good or outstanding.

Inspectors found that the residents were treated with the utmost ‘dignity, respect and kindness’ and there was a strong emphasis on taking their views into account when agreeing care provision, and their feedback was valued and used to make improvements.

There are extensive facilities on site providing stimulating and imaginative activities to support people’s care and leisure needs and to help them develop and practice the skills needed for independent living.  There are also close links with the local community ensuring that people are not socially isolated.

The service people received was considered good in three areas (safe, effective and caring) and outstanding in two – responsive and well-led – with the culture of the organisation praised for being ‘open, transparent and inclusive’ allowing staff to feel comfortable and confident to raise concerns.

Judith Finlay, executive director for children, adults and public health enjoyed a celebratory slice of cake when she joined residents and staff at the home yesterday (Wednesday 8 March).

Judith said: “I am very pleased that the inspectors found Turnberry Court to be an outstanding example of care. The council works hard to ensure that those we commission provide top rate services for older vulnerable residents. Our close and effective partnership with Notting Hill Housing Group is delivering an excellent result for the residents.”

Linda Strong, Assistant Director of Notting Hill Pathways, said: “To receive a rating of outstanding from the CQC is a massive achievement and real testament to the hard work and care put in by all of our staff at Turnberry Court.

“We pride ourselves on providing a safe, warm and inclusive environment for all of our extra care residents and I am thrilled that those efforts have been reflected in the inspectors’ report.”
