The Order of Merit for Middlesex County Golf Union revealed over 10% Sudbury players were in the top 100, and 4 of these were in the top 20.

The winner by only one point was Danial Parsons, followed by Niall Keogh(7), Matt Pegg(11), and Dan Jeffries(14). Ben Souris, a Sudbury Junior winner, was 93rd and Club Chairman, Ian Fulda was 58th.

The prestigious Gowland Trophy was won again by Danial following the fine examples by Tommy King and the Ginn brothers set in previous years. Tommy and David Ginn are now progressing their careers as professional golfers.

The scratch A team could not follow their previous successes at County level, but hope for better performances this year under their new mentor Derry Brien, who has taken over the leadership following the sad loss last year of Peter Morris.

The Ladies Section won the County Interclub Foursomes played by Angela Spelman and Carolyn Matthews, Carolyn is also best Lady Golfer at Sudbury. Nicola Grover continued her good form as runner up in 2 County singles competitions.

However, in the 60th anniversary year of the Stanley West Trophy, the High Handicap Section (aka the Rabbits) won this county KO with a final match against neighbours, Ealing G. C, with a team lead by Chairman, Craig Randall.

At Club level a new record was set in October 2013 by Niall Keogh who set a course record of 61 with a card that included 9 birdies. Ben Souris won junior cup and handicap competitions and that man Danial won almost everything he entered; Klean Cup, Spring and Autumn Scratch Cups, MacGregor Bowl, and Skinner Cup.

Not to be outdone, his friend and fellow county team mate, Niall Keogh, walked away with a framed attribute to his new course record, the Captains Sword and the top Club award- the Club Championship.

The downside of winning this was having to give a speech on which a sweepstake was run for the time taken. It was 4 minutes and 18 seconds, so another un-named winner in 2013!.
Sudbury G.C. are hoping for another good year, both in friendly and county matches, but most of all to enjoy the game, the friendships, and the course, which despite the recent wet conditions has remained mostly playable thanks to the many years of work and the miles of pipe laid by Course Manager, Jim Easton and his team.

We hope to bring more news from Sudbury as the season gets underway.
