A West Ealing Primary School has officially opened its expanded new site.

St John’s Primary School held a celebration event on Tuesday
19 June to mark the opening of its new facilities.
The new build will be able to accommodate a three-form entry to local children.

Visitors enjoyed a tour of the new facilities; drumming, drama and dance performances by the pupils; and the première of a celebration dance film featuring staff and pupils, directed by award-winning filmmaker Mr Jevan Chowdhury and choreographed by London 2012 Olympics choreographer Ms Jeanefer Jean-Charles.

In attendance were the Mayor of the London Borough of Ealing, Cllr. Tejinder Singh Dhami;
Cllr. Yvonne Johnson, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services; and author and educationalist
Mr Pie Corbett.

Cllr. Johnson said: “It’s an absolutely lovely school - a beautiful playground, lots of marvellous
facilities, well designed. I think we have to thank everybody who’s been involved in this.”
Mr Corbett said: “St John’s is a place of joyful learning. I have visited many school buildings
around the country – this is probably the best I have visited.”

Mr Corbett also commented on the high quality of books for reading used by the school.

Headteacher Ms Marilyn Borlase said: “This has been a very special year for St John’s. We
have moved into an outstanding CONRAN-designed building full of light and space. We
have been commended by the Government for being in the top 2% of the country for pupil
progress. Now, in our new building, we literally face a different direction towards the wider
community, and can focus on building on our successes.”
