Events taking place in parks, canals and residential roads

The Great British Spring Clean (GBSC) is taking place again and there are opportunities to get stuck in around the borough.

GBSC is an annual national campaign which encourages people to take pride in their neighbourhood and tackle rubbish and litter on streets, green spaces, alleyways and canals.

This year, the council is holding a number of clean-up events in areas of the borough that have been identified by residents as hot spots for littering and fly-tipping. Residents had the chance to vote for one local road, park and canal across the borough for this year’s GBSC.

An event will be held at each of the following three chosen locations on Friday, 2 March 2018 to kick off the GBSC weekend.

• Road: Seaford Road, West Ealing - 10am to 1pm
• Park: Brent Lodge Park - 11am to 2pm
• Canal: Smiths Farm Section, Grand Union Canal - 12pm to 3pm

All residents and community groups are welcome to attend the events, and also encouraged to help make a difference by organising clean-up events in their neighbourhood.

There are also three GBSC clean-up events at the below locations on Saturday, 3 March. Residents are welcome to attend one or all of the sessions at the following times:

• South Ealing Station - 10am
• Northfields Station - 12pm
• Boston Manor Station - 2pm

A clean-up event is also planned by local residents in Southall on Friday 2 March at 2pm. Everyone is welcome and those wishing to attend should meet outside Chaudhry's TKC restaurant, 161 The Broadway, Southall (junction with West End Road).

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, leisure and environment said: “The Great British Spring Clean is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and to keep their local area looking its best.

“This year we have asked local people to be more involved than ever and let us know the hot-spots they want to see targeted for clean-ups. I encourage local communities to join us and come along to these events.

“The council is committed to keeping the borough’s streets and parks clean and litter free. We also crack down on illegal and irresponsible fly-tipping, and deal out hefty fines to anyone making a mess on our streets.”
