A car crash at a road junction in South Ealing caused chaos for several hours on Monday (3 September) with questions being asked as to why the wreckage wasn't made safe or cleared until hours later.

The accident happened during the day at the traffic lights between Little Ealing Lane, South Ealing Road and Popes Lane, and the damaged car was left for several hours in situ.

The junction is a known danger spot and locals say it was a miracle that another accident didn't happen as vehicles had to cautiously make their way round the car. Witnesses also report that the 65 bus heading north was forced to drive on the opposite side of the road.

Another Ealing Today reader told us, '' All it had was some red and white 'caution do not move' police tape on it as the traffic swerved around it during the next two hours of the rush hour. At eight o'clock it was still there. There were no police in attendance, no officer on duty, no warning signs, no hazard lights, nothing. If there was one place where there should have been a police officer on duty it is there.''

The vehicle was eventually cleared away just before 9pm.

We asked Ealing Police for an explanation about the delay in arranging recovery of the vehicle and are awaiting a reply.
