A man has been taken to hospital with what police describe as a ' slash injury' and six others injured after an assault in a Southall restaurant.

Ealing police (on Twitter) said they were called around 11.10am and believe two groups were involved in the fight at the Dawat restaurant.

Witnesses reported eight police cars racing down the Uxbridge Road to deal with the incident.

A man in his twenties was taken to hospital and two people have been arrested.

Southall Labour MP, Virendra Sharma said:

''I am still in shock at the news from Southall Broadway. I have been briefed by the Police and we are all awaiting further news and information. At this point the Police do not believe the attack to have been a hate crime.

'' I call on all parents and members of our community to remain vigilant to signs that children or family members are carrying knives. I would urge anyone with a knife to use the 'Knife bins' installed around Ealing to safely dispose of them. Locally they are available at; Estate Services office (Fleming Rd) – Dormers Wells Ward, Dominion Centre, The Green, Southall – Southall Green Ward, and Windmill Park Community Centre, Tulip Close – Norwood Green Ward”
