Tributes Paid To Cyclist Killed in Southall Road Collision

The cyclist who died after a road traffic collision involving a lorry in Southall was an 86-year-old who had been making his his regular trip to an outdoor gym.

The crash occurred just before 9am on Thursday 9 November on South Road at the junction with St Joseph's Drive. The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police.

The family of Darshan Singh Heer have been paying tribute telling the Evening Standard that despite his age he was super fit and would ride five minutes to the park everyday to complete an hour long workout.

The family, originally from India, have lived in their Southall home for more than 30 years.  Mr Heer, had worked as a teacher at Wendell Park primary school in Shepherds Bush. He leaves five children and four grandchildren.

A police statement said, “An 86-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. There have been no arrests.”

The spokesman added: “The deceased was riding a bicycle — he was not a pedestrian pushing a bike as previously stated.”

Mr Heer is the tenth cyclist known to have died on London’s roads this year and follows the death of Claudia Manera after a collision involving a lorry and bike in West Ealing.
