Council to display images of offenders as part of new hardline campaign

Images of flytippers are to be shown online and locally in a bid to crackdown on offenders in Southall.

It's part of a new campaign focussing around the Southall Broadway and Southall Green areas and the council want locals to help catch those who fly-tip close to where they live.

They say every time someone leaves waste on the street, dumped in an alleyway, at the end of the road, outside someone else’s house or even outside their own home, it counts as fly tipping and is a crime.

Pictures of offenders caught on camera fly-tipping in Southall Broadway area will be displayed in the local area and online to help local people recognise alleged offenders and ensure they are fined. 

Part of the campaign will also include increased enforcement operating in Southall Green and Southall Broadway. Since last year more than 5,400 fixed penalty notices have been issued last year ranging from £80 - the maximum penalty fine of £400 to support our determination to prosecute anyone behaving illegally.

Councillor Mik Sabiers, cabinet member for environment and highways said: “Fly-tipping is a serious problem on the streets of Southall and is the most costly part of the borough in terms of clear-ups by our enforcement teams. 

“This is why we are launching our Cleaner Southall campaign which is tackling the problem at every level and we are investing in more CCTV cameras to catch out the few lawbreakers that dump rubbish on Southall's streets. We are making it much easier to report fly-tippers so I encourage anyone who witnesses such behaviour to report it to the council immediately so we can take strong action.

“We don’t tolerate fly-tipping and neither do the vast majority of residents in Southall who play by the rules. That is why we are calling on those who live and work in the area to get involved and help ensure we keep rubbish of the streets of Southall.”

Helping catch the offenders - If you have witnessed someone fly-tipping please report them to the council. Include as much detail as possible including date, time, location, details of the involved and any information about the origins of the rubbish including specific property or company details.

Know the facts on fly-tipping – even leaving a bag of rubbish next to a bin counts as fly-tipping. It is unsightly, costs the council to clear up and will lead to a fine if you are caught. Make sure you are not one of the irresponsible minority dumping rubbish in on the streets of Southall.
