Four Arrested After Southall Arson Attack Death

Three more men were arrested today in connection with the arson attack in Southall in which a man from Acton died.

The men, who are aged between 30 and 40 were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson. They remain in police custody at this time. A man in his twenties was arrested earlier on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been bailed to a date in mid-June pending further enquiries.

A man named by police as 21-year-old Sherif Adel Makar Habib died in hospital after a blaze in the early hours of the morning of 25 April in a garage in Southall.

Mr Habib is a duel British and Egyptian national who died due to severe burns according to the initial port mortem examination. Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to the fire on Cranleigh Gardens at around 1255am. The blaze destroyed the single storey garage.He was rescued from the property by firefighters and taken to a specialist burns hospital in Essex where he was pronounced dead.

Detective Inspector Janet Livesey, Ealing Police CID, said: "I would like to appeal to anyone with any information, or indeed anyone who witnessed the fire to come forward and speak to the police in confidence."
