Do you have ideas on how to help Southall residents become more active?

Small businesses and start-up companies are being given the chance to bid for cash in a new scheme launched on Monday, 11 June.

Ealing Council is one of the partners working with the Mayor of London on the Civic Innovation Challenge.

The challenge is an initiative that matches start-ups and small and medium sized companies with leading corporates and public organisations to solve some of the city’s biggest challenges. In its first year the challenge is searching for innovative solutions to reduce inequality, prevent climate change and support London’s ageing population.

Councillor Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council, said: “We’re delighted to be taking part in this groundbreaking scheme to develop innovative ways of supporting people to be more active. Making sure people get enough exercise is a huge priority for us because it helps them live healthy, independent lives for longer.''

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “As Mayor I am committed to supporting the best and brightest in the capital to work closely with our public services and other institutions so that together we can deliver real improvements for all Londoners. My Civic Innovation Challenge provides a vital new platform for that collaboration.”

Southall was put forward for the challenge because it has a number of challenges which could contribute to helping residents become more active. The town was also recently selected by Sport England for a programme to tackle the issue.

Companies have until Sunday, 8 July to submit their proposals, with up to two successful companies being selected to work with the council and BG Ventures to develop their ideas.

In October a winner will be selected, who will be awarded up to £15,000 to support them to develop their ideas, that they will unveil at a demo day in December.
