Broadcaster John Sergeant waved the chequered flag to start a scooter race between Steve Pound MSP and Council Leader, Councillor Julian Bell. Deputy Mayor, Councillor John Gallagher also helped with starting duties (pictured below right).

This race launched the start of the Shopmobility scheme which will enable those less mobile, including the elderly, to hire a motorised scooter to assist them in getting around the shops in Ealing’s city centre. The cost of hiring will be £1 for up to half a day, and £2 for a whole day.

Ealing Centre for independent living (ECIL), and Lifestyle Mobility, will operate the new ‘shopmobility’ scheme on behalf of the council, from a unit in the Arcadia shopping centre next to the TK Maxx store.
