Attended only by those closest to Mr Sharma, the celebrations were hosted by Steve Pound, Member of Parliament for Ealing North, and Mr Atul Pathak a local businessman and close friend of Mr Sharma.

Tom Watson

Mr Tom Watson, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, and long time friend of Mr Sharma, since they worked together in the 1980s, spoke about Mr Sharma's long term commitment to equality and the betterment of society. Mr Watson also added his hope that Mr Sharma's next ten years in Parliament would be as successful as his first. His Excellency Deputy High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik of India spoke about how in the last twelve months since he came from India Mr Sharma has become one of his closest friends in the UK, a man truly committed to improving relations and connections between the UK and India.

Speaking at the party Virendra Sharma MP said: “I am shocked, amazed and so grateful to everyone here today. It means so much to me that you would come to celebrate this milestone with me. I want to thank everyone who made these last ten years possible. My family have stuck by me through everything, the friends that have worked with me and campaigned with me to make what I do a success, and the Labour Party that made it possible.

The last ten years have been an amazing privilege and honour. I represent the area I have lived in for 49 years and the place that I call home, there is no greater honour. Every time they have to vote the great people of Ealing Southall vote for me in greater numbers, and I truly respect the trust they have put in me. I hope that I can carry on representing our community for a long time to come.”
