Aqil Ali, 31 of Mornington Road, Greenford, was found guilty of numerous offences following a six-day-trial at Isleworth Crown Court.

Ali targeted his victim, a woman aged in her late forties, on her way to work on the morning of Saturday, 5 March.

He approached her and asked if she had a cigarette, when the victim said she did not smoke he launched the assault. He dragged her into a secluded spot and brutally attacked her.

Ali then stole money from his victim and fled the scene. The victim, despite being injured and very distressed, managed to raise the alarm at a nearby shop.

Detectives from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command began an immediate investigation. Officers conducted extensive enquiries and studied CCTV footage from the park.

The CCTV captured Ali entering and leaving the park, but he had obscured his face with clothing. A DNA match to Ali was later identified and on 7 March he was arrested at his home address.

On 8 March 2016, he was charged and convicted of ten offences namely; kidnapping, two counts of rape , two counts of assault by penetration, attempted rape, actual bodily harm, theft and two offences of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.

Detective Inspector Neil John of Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said, "I must firstly express my thanks and admiration for the victim. Despite all that she has endured she has had the courage to give evidence that has seen her attacker brought to justice."

"Be in no doubt, this was a truly horrific crime. Ali was brutal and vicious, and carried out a sustained attack on a woman who was innocently making her way to work. I am both pleased and relieved that he has been convicted and that he will now be made to face the consequences of his own cruelty and depravity."

Sentencing will take place on Wednesday, 12 October 2016 at Isleworth Crown Court.
