Youngsters from an Ealing Primary school have won first prize in a borough wide science fair.

Sofia Borojerdi, Hannah Lee and Siya Shoor, from Coston Primary took part in the Ealing Primary Science Fair at Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls.

It was a most memorable day for all involved but especially the team from Coston as they took 1st place for the best science project in the Chemistry division. The team worked hard to identify a suitable idea for their project and over the months developed this by planning and carrying out their investigation. The winning project was an investigation into whether the location from where water is sourced affects its acidity or alkalinity.

The girls conducted research into a number of commercial brands to investigate the PH levels of the water and the health benefits of the different brands.

Finally, they structured the information into a report for the Fair detailing their findings and offering conclusions into the health benefits of the different water available.

The girls prepared their presentation so that it provided a clear explanation of their hypothesis, the processes followed, the results and conclusion using precise and concise scientific language so their work could be easily understood by the audience.

The hard work paid off in the end with their win, and they are already busy thinking about what they might investigate for next year.
