Miranda Sofia's Poems and Stories for Little People is aimed at young writers
June 15, 2023 A Year 4 student from St Augustine’s Priory in Ealing has just published her first book. 9-year-old Miranda Sofia has been writing for two years and her work has been collated into Poems and Stories for Little People (written by one). Born into a Latino family with Venezuelan roots, and with a fascination for reading from an early age, Miranda has always expressed her desire to become an author. Her proud dad Javier describes what she has done as a great achievement. Her school says that Miranda’s lessons have often been the inspiration behind her poems and stories, such as her work on fables, the structure of poetry and even science topics. The talks which visiting authors have paid to the school have also played a part, as they have stimulated Miranda’s belief that she, too, could be an author. Her book is described by Wisdom House Publishing as a captivating collection of literary creations encompassing an array of tales, ranging from light-hearted narratives on friendship and family to thought-provoking poems that illuminate the world around us. Each page bears the distinctive voice of the author, ‘creating an intimate and relatable connection with the reader. Through her storytelling, Miranda offers a heartfelt glimpse into her vibrant mind as she shares a myriad of thoughts, feelings, and experiences’. Accompanied by illustrations, Poems and Stories for Little People aims to serve as a gateway for children to discover the joy of both reading and writing. The hope is that young readers will be inspired to carve their own paths, exploring the realms of creativity and self-expression through the written word. It is being recommended as an ideal gift from a parent to a child who dream of becoming an author to be read together with a glass of milk. Ms Keane, Head of Preps and Pre-Preps at St Augustine’s Priory, had this to say, “‘Poems and Stories for Little People’ is a wonderful achievement, we are all immensely proud of Miranda”. A spokesperson for the publisher said “Nothing gives us greater pleasure than bringing an author’s voice to life. Publishing Miranda’s book was particularly rewarding as she is the youngest author we have worked with. Her talent and vivid imagination shine through on every page. It is wonderful that someone so young has such remarkable writing skill.” The book is available on Amazon for £9.99 in paperback and £14.99 in hardback and is already getting five star reviews and has been sold in seven countries.
