New residents' survey seeks to provide information to the Council and Police

The issue of personal safety throughout the Ealing borough - particularly of women has been highlighted in a new survey.

Liberal Democrat Councillors are urging all residents to participate in the questionnaire which has been compiled to gauge opinions and find ways to make the area accessible and safer for all.
The action has been prompted by a number of high profile cases including that of Sarah Everard. The 33-year-old  went missing after walking home from a friend's house in south London on 3 March - her body was found a week later in woodland near Kent.
Met Police officer Wayne Couzens, 48, has been charged with the murder and kidnap of Ms Everard. He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 9 July ahead of a trial due to start on 25 October.

The case led to an outpouring of anger with many vigils and demonstrations being held. Locally,
''Reclaim These Ealing Streets'' arranged a socially distanced night walk and now has more than 800 members, men and women, in a Facebook social media group.

This new survey is an opportunity for everyone to give their views. The LibDems say they will collate the results and present them anonymously to both the Council and the Police.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Councillor Gary Malcolm said: '' After a recent case locally in which a women was attacked and a man charged with attempted murder, I wanted to understand concerns relating to personal safety - particularly from women. I think it is important for myself and my political party to listen to people's views from around the borough to hear experiences and try to assess what is needed to reduce both the fear and the causes of some of the crimes that are happening.
The survey was designed by a few people to try to ask the right questions. With this information I will write to the Council and the Police with a list of proposals on how we can make our area safer.''
