The Ealing Central and Acton MP Rupa Huq has planted a tree in Lammas Park donated by Extinction Rebellion activists.

Lammas Park Enclosure was the site chosen to plant the tree which she received from the group along with 650 other MPs last week.

Rupa received the Field Maple which was planted on Sunday as part of the #reforestearth campaign.

Formerly a disused tennis court, the Enclosure now boasts a community orchard, outdoor classroom, edible garden beds and a range of edible trees and shrubs throughout the developing woodland area. Lammas Park has an inclusive ethos, welcoming birds, insects and people to benefit from its thriving natural habitat.

Trevor Sharman of the Ealing Transition Initiative which maintains the Lammas Enclosure was delighted to receive the sapling. He commented: “The addition of the Field Maple, planted by Rupa Huq MP, adds to the diverse forest community which has grown up under the light-touch management of Ealing transition Initiative and Ealing Parks Rangers to the extent that the area won a coveted Silver Gilt Award from London In Bloom this year.”

Rupa said was pleased to meet with the activists and learn more about reforestation as a climate solution and said: “It was great to discover yet another hidden gem in my seat and to meet Trevor and friends in this serene forest garden just across the road from the main grand Walpole Park by the tennis courts.”

Rupa added: “While initiatives such as this are a great way of making the local area greener, I am committed to implementing national legislation to ensure the UK is a global leader in tackling the climate crisis.”
