The mother and sister of Hanwell teenager, Alice Gross, will take part in national charity Missing People’s annual fundraiser Miles for Missing Children on Sunday 25 September.

The charity, which has over 20 years’ experience providing practical and emotional support to missing people and their families on its free, confidential and 24hr helpline, invites the public to take part. With 1, 3 and 10 mile routes, Miles for Missing Children has a run to suit all running ages and abilities.

Now in its sixth year, the proceeds of this year’s run will go towards their new campaign ‘Find Every Child’, which aims to reach all of the 140,000 children who go missing each year in the UK by 2022.

Previous participants in the event include Kate and Gerry McCann, the parents of Madeleine McCann and Paul Jones, the father of April Jones. Many families who have a missing loved one take part wearing a poster appeal for their family member on the back of their running vest and all participants are encouraged to join them.

This year, two years after Alice disappeared and then found murdered, Ros Hodgkiss and Nina Gross, will run the 3-mile race and sing with the Missing People Choir which is made up of families with a missing loved one.

Also attending is Denise Allan, the mother of Charles Horvath-Allan who disappeared 25 years ago at the age of 20.

Ros Hodgkiss said: ''Missing People was invaluable when Alice went missing. They were there to help with a poster and awareness campaign and with telephone and personal support. By taking part in Miles for Missing Children for this very worthy cause, you’ll be helping other families and missing people to get the support they need.''

Missing People Chief Executive Jo Youle says ‘We’re thrilled to see our flagship annual fundraiser ‘Miles’ go from strength to strength. This year proceeds will go to our new campaign Find Every Child, our largest public appeal for funds yet. Our vision is that every missing child is found safe and with your help we can achieve this’.
