Police Seek Man Who Got Off Train at Southall After Racist Attack

Victim subjected to anti- muslim comments and punched in face

Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to question about a racist attack on board a train.

It happened on the 10.15pm Paddington to Newbury train on Sunday, 1 May - the man got off at Southall. 

The victim was approached by a two men and a woman who struck up a conversation with him. One of the men in the group became aggressive and started making anti-Muslim remarks to the victim.  

He then punched the 34-year-old in the face before leaving the train at Southall.

PC Rachel Parfitt said: “The victim was left bruised by this disgraceful attack and it is fortunate that he was not more seriously injured.  

“This was a racially motivated assault which will have appalled anyone who witnessed it and we need anyone with information to come forward.  

“Passengers have the right to expect they will be safe when they travel. We will do everything we can to find the person responsible for this assault.”  

Officers have analysed CCTV and distributed images on police intelligence networks, and today they are releasing an image of a man who they think may have information about the incident.
