Theatre West Four's forthcoming production of Jimmie Chinn's Syliva's Wedding takes place at the Questors Studio with a special gala night to raise money for the British Lung Foundation in his memory.

Playwright, Jimmie Chinn had a deep association with the local amateur theatre company, he sadly passed away in 2011 having been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in 2000.

This production of his wonderfully earthy comedy, Sylvia’s Wedding is dedicated to Jimmie and a substantial part of the profits from the show will be donated to The British Lung Foundation in support of COPD Awareness Day on 22 November.

In the play, Gordon proposes to Sylvia after 10 years of courting, throwing their families into turmoil. Gordon’s pompous father, Stanley, is not at all sure that Joyce and Vic, Sylvia’s parents, are the sort of people he wants his family connected to….and Vic feels much the same! Yvonne, Sylvia’s best friend, is determined to pour a bucket of cold water over Sylvia’s dreams with her ‘glass half empty’ view of the world. Will the ‘happy’ couple ever tie the knot?

Jimmie’s witty and keenly observed portrait of family values, as two families struggle to come together over a wedding with polarised views and personalities, is warm yet sharp with more than a touch of bittersweet irony as the story unfolds.

The British Lung Foundation is the only UK charity working for the 1 in 5 people affected by respiratory disease.

Katie Lyall, Community and Events Manager at the British Lung Foundation says: “We are delighted that Theatre West Four will be supporting the British Lung Foundation through their performances of Sylvia’s Wedding and in memory of Jimmie Chinn. Every contribution makes a difference and funds raised will go towards ensuring that we can continue to offer vital support for people with lung disease, as well as their partners, families and friends. We are also campaigning for better diagnosis, treatment and prevention. For further information please visit www.blf.org.uk.
