Two brave Ealing police officers have been given Royal Humane Society awards for their actions which saved the lives of others.

In June 2015, PC Allen-Turner was directing traffic with a colleague when they saw a couple run out of a house on Lady Margaret Road in Southall, carrying a five-year-old girl who had stopped breathing.

A passing motorist stopped and offered to take the child to hospital but the traffic was at a standstill. PC Allen-Turner took the lifeless child from the car and placed her on the ground and started CPR.

Her colleague PC Ben Doyle collected a defibrillator from Southall Police Station and the two officers took it in turn to administer CPR before she the ambulance service took over.

Once at the hospital, it was established that the little girl had stopped breathing after suffering an asthma attack. The senior paramedic praised the actions of the police officers and he said their early intervention undoubtedly saved the child's life.

PC Doyle got his award at an event in December 2016.

Ealing Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Paul Martin, said: "If it was not for PC Allen-Turner and PC Doyle's actions it is highly likely that this young child would not be alive today. Through their actions they have shown true professionalism and Ealing is lucky to have such dedicated officers looking out for them."

Meanwhile another officer PC Adam Smith risked his own life by running into a burning building in Hanwell to save several members of the public.

During the early hours of 13 November 2015, PC Smith and his Sergeant were flagged down by a member of the public who had seen a male on the roof of premises in Hanwell.

As the officers reached the address they saw smoke billowing out of the flats above a shop.

Despite the risk to their own lives, the officers entered the premises. Visibility was poor and the thick smoke caused difficulty breathing.

On the first floor they found several residents who were in a state of shock and suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. The officers led them through the building and out onto the street to safety.

By this time the London Fire Brigade attended and firefighters had located and escorted a further five residents from the building.

It was suspected that the fire had been caused by bedding accidently being ignited by burning incense.

Ealing Borough commander Chief Superintendent Paul Martin said: "PC Smith and his Sergeant’s heroic actions on that day potentially saved the lives of several members of public. They risked their own safety to bring these Ealing residents to safety. They are a real testament to the Metropolitan Police Service and to Ealing."

Acting Commissioner Craig Mackey said: "These officers are truly remarkable and it is with pride and thanks that I commend them for their actions. They are all fantastic examples of the values we hold dear within the Metropolitan Police Service and I believe we should all be very grateful to them for their quick thinking and bravery which has resulted in so many lives being saved."
