Ealing Council has apologised following the sudden closure of Pitshanger Library.

Residents were shocked to see a 'notice of forfeiture' posted on the property which stated that the landlord, Classville Limted, was entitled to reposess it following the demise of the lease and 'the absence of lease renewal proceedings between the  company and the council.'

An Ealing Council spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to users. We are currently in negotiations with the landlord regarding the lease and are working towards an agreed solution so the library can reopen as soon as possible.“

Negotiations are also ongoing for a proposal for the local facility to be run as a Community Managed Library (CML).

Volunteers have been found and a submission has been made to the Council.

Those interested in getting involved with the new community proposal are urged to pick up further information at John Martin Estates 82 Pitshanger Lane.
