A petition has been set up in a bid to save Pitshanger Library from closure.

Piyshanger Library

The lease for the community site is up for renewal in December and cutbacks mean the council want to move it to an unspecified "community location" to be staffed with volunteers.

Pitshanger library reopened four years ago after being refurbished, has public network computers wifi, includes a children's area, as well as reference and community information. It holds a wide selection of lending materials in various formats.

Ealing Council itself says 'Pitshanger Library is a popular smaller library.'

Opposition councillors have launched a campaign to keep the library where it is.

Cllr Seema Kumar, Shadow Cabinet Member for Council Services and Safer Communities said, "The closure of Pitshanger Lane Library timed for December will create a massive hole in this award winning High Street.

''Locals and others visiting the area will be much affected by this move particularly our elderly residents who use it not only as a Library, but a community Hub within a community.

"I urge residents to sign the Petition and try to force Labour to reverse their decision to close this valuable community asset."
