A 15-year-old pupil attending Dormers Wells School in Southall has been presented with a prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award at a live digital event.

Mustafa Abdor Rahlmzy earned the award after his teacher saw him helping an old man across the road on the way home from school. Mustafa had stopped the traffic and supported the man all the way to his front door.

This is just one example of many in the past year where Mustafa has gone out of his way to help others. He has also supported a new student who joined the school with no English language. Mustafa has been translating for him, helping him try to make friends and been supporting his transition into an English secondary school.

Mustafa said, “The next morning I came into school and all the teachers start to praise me for what I had done [to help the man cross the road]. I asked them how they found out and a teacher replied ‘I was in one of the cars and I saw you help him.’ I was really happy that day as I always want to help another living soul, no matter who they are.”

Mustafa decided to spend his £250 Jack Petchey Achievement Award grant equipment for the school to aid students learning experience.

Sir Jack founded the Jack Petchey Foundation in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential. Since then the Foundation has supported over 2,000 initiatives for young people across London and Essex and has invested over £133m. The Jack Petchey Foundation has worked with schools and youth groups across Ealing providing £798,000 in funding to schools and youth clubs in the local area.

Sir Jack Petchey CBE aged 95, said: “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
