Don't throw out your waste - donate it to the church instead.

That's the message from supporters of St Thomas in Hanwell, http://www.thomashanwell.org.uk/ trying to raise money to repair the church organ built over 100 years ago.

It will cost £150,000 to restore the organ to it's former glory and so far £17,500 has been collected.

As part of the efforts to raise more funds local residents are collecting a variety of waste products usually thrown away, these include:

actimel yoghurt pots, coffee jar lids, baby wipe packages, Tassimo pods, Kenco refill packs, coffee bean bags, other coffee refill bags as well one cup instant coffee stixs, non savoury biscuit wrappers eg custard creams, digestive etc.

They can all be recycled though a local company called Terracycle http://www.terracycle.co.uk

So far £200 has been raised this way and organiser Pauline Britton is convinced that this figure can be increased.

She says:

''This is a collection that the community could join in, the collecting boxes are in the church which is open during the day and also there is a collection box in the hall that has groups meeting most evenings.''
