OPEN Ealing - Ealing's arts venue- has launched at its new home in Dickens Yard.

OPEN was founded in July 2010 by a group of local artists and residents as part of the regeneration of the Green Man Lane estate. The project has kept regeneration at the heart of its work ever since, using the arts as a sustainable way of starting a conversation with the community to address contentious issues and improve wellbeing.

Now based in Christ the Saviour Church, OPEN is looking forward to bringing artists, performers, art groups and residents together to promote creativity and create new opportunities. The launch provided plenty of creative outlets for visitors, from candle making to painting small tiles to be used in a community artwork for the space.

Rupa Huq, the MP for Ealing Central and Acton, was given a tour of the art space to the sound of Ealing’s a cappella choir Capita Chorus and the UFO steal band. The exhibition features photographs by local photographer Ali Moosavi-Jalal, with all proceeds going to Ealing-based charity BEfriend.

Mandie Wilde, Chief Operating Officer of OPEN Ealing, said: “It was amazing to have such a great attendance at the launch of the Dickens Yard base. From people who had known us since we started the project over a decade ago, to plenty of new faces, the event brought people together from all over Ealing.”

Mandie added: “It was fantastic to have Rupa at the event and also to welcome local residents from Dickens Yard into the new space – we hope to see lots more of them in the future!”

Rupa commented: “It was a pleasure to attend OPEN Ealing’s launch event and to have a look around the new space. We’re lucky to have this hub of creativity in the heart of Ealing, attracting audiences and participants from far and wide. It’s great to see the project supporting new artists and performers and involving the local community in the arts. I look forward to seeing what OPEN has in store over the coming weeks and months.”
