New playground opens in Northolt

A brand new playground has opened at Northala Fields in Northolt.

The council’s parks team has been working with designers to create the play area to enhance the playground near the café.

Where possible, responsibly sourced materials have been used including robina wood, which has a naturally high resistance to rot. The play area has been built on the existing mound to give it additional height providing children with space to play and explore.

The new structure includes a ‘club house’ style platform, twisted tubular slide and swinging rope bridges making it easy for children to let their imaginations run wild. A crawling tunnel, balancing blocks and ramps provide a challenge and a chance to build confidence.

Educational and sensory games are hidden at low levels throughout the area for toddlers to interact with and enjoy. They include butterfly and bug sculptures, as well as tactile cubes.

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport and environment, said: “The new playground draws you in with its spectacular slides, wonderful walkways and riveting rope bridges.  Its appeal calls out to children of all ages and you’ll be hard pushed to not have a go yourself.”

The new play area is located near the visitors’ centre in Northala Fields, Kensington Road, Northolt UB5. The visitors’ centre offers fishing classes on the lakes and includes a café, public toilets and classroom facilities.
