Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at the New Inn pub on St Mary’s Road in Ealing during the early hours of this morning.

The fire gutted an outbuilding and part of the ground floor of the pub.

Six people, were alerted to the fire by a neighbour, left the pub before the Brigade arrived. The pub’s smoke alarms also sounded.

Watch Manager Giorgio Petrelli who was at the scene said: “It's incidents like this one that show how important it is to have a working smoke alarm that you check regularly. Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of their home and the safest option is to have those linked together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire. Thanks to the smoke alarm in the pub and a vigilant neighbour the people inside were alerted to the fire and got out uninjured.”

The Brigade was called at 0250 and the fire was under control by 0415. Crews from Ealing, Southall, Chiswick and Acton fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
