A group of volunteers will be climbing Mount Snowdon at the end of the month to raise funds for a Hanwell Neighbours charity.

Hanwell Neighbourly Care Scheme (HNCS) offers support to older people in the W7 area. It gives help in an emergency and encourages contact between people to try and minimise isolation and loneliness.

It encourages the development of activities and arranges various 'Pop-Ins' to helping maintain independence and nurture friendship among active older people.

Volunteer and committee member Alan Baverstock along with his partner and four friends who support the charity did a similar climb last year of Skafell Pike for the charity which took around 9hours and raised almost £600.

He says : '' We have not done group training for this, but four of the team are experienced climbers/trekkers, one of whom is actually an ex marine so we are in safe hands and have few worries for that reason! Funds raised go 100% back into the charity enabling us to fund pop in mornings, day trips and lunches for our service users.''
