Opposition is mounting to plans which would see a major local supermarket site demolished.

Developers, Essential Living say: '' The scheme will provide much needed new homes alongside the re-provision of a supermarket and high quality landscaped public realm.

The application is to bulldoze the Morrisons in Brentford and build a 10 storey high mixed use scheme. This would include a new supermarket as well as other shops/cafes and include 225 flats for the private rented sector some of which will be available (25%) at rents at some discount to the full market rate. The Hounslow Local Plan calls for at least 40% of homes in new developments to be affordable.

Morrisons plans

The supermarket will be of a similar size to the current Morrisons, whose lease runs out in 2018. There have been no plans included for a temporary supermarket during the construction period.

Local groups say the development is ugly, overbearing and out of character with the area and have expressed concern over the lack of affordable housing.

Over 1,000 people have already signed a paper petition and Friends of St Pauls has set up an online petition - with a deadline of 20th February.

It's expected the planning application will be heard at committee in March and if approved building work of up to 2 years  could start next autumn.
