The mystery over a local war memorial stone to students from Ealing College Upper School who died serving in World War Two has been solved.

l

The stone was unveiled in a service of blessing a few years ago at 83, The Avenue but disappeared from the site last month and there were fears that it may have been lost.

After extensive enquiries it's now been revealed that the war memorial is safe and being looked after at St Benedict's school.

Shaun Hullis writes:

'' I am the Contingent Commander of St Benedict's CCF and was present at the re-dedication of your memorial in November 2014. I have been in touch with Brian Martin of the Ecobians ever since because of the Conabor Sword, and earlier this year he got in touch saying that as the original builders had gone bust and the administrators believed that the covenant stating that the occupants of the end house should protect the memorial was unenforceable, serious consideration was being given to removing the memorial for safety.

''This has now been done, and the stone is now within arm's reach of where I now sit, in my office at St Benedict's. We are unveiling a new war memorial of our own on November 11th, and have been asked to provide a permanent home next to it for the Ealing College memorial. We have gladly agreed and will be unveiling it beside our own. The Ecobians will be having it cleaned and re-lettered and a plaque will explain the reason why it is with us instead of at the former site.''
