Magdelana Hegarty has been 'walking on air' for the last few weeks.

This talented teacher from Hanwell has made it to the final of a major music competition to be held at the O2.

Magdalena, known as 'Mags', has been playing and singing since she was 5 and later went on to co-found the acoustic monthly evening at the North Star pub in Ealing.

The science teacher, who works at a school in Twickenham, battled it out in live heats of 'Live and Unsigned' and beat tough opposition at the regional finals in Hayes.

She will now join other talented musicians at The O2 on Saturday 14th July!

Live and Unsigned is the biggest original music competition in the UK for unsigned bands and artists. and has attracted over 40,000 entries.

The winners will be awarded the title of the UK’s best unsigned act in front of an anticipated capacity crowd on the main stage at Proud2 at The O2.

Mags is overjoyed and says:

'' "I'm walking on air and have been since the regional final. When I got through on the judges vote, I was just so happy it's hard to describe! Now I get to play the 02, which is a dream come true in itself."

The winning act of Live and Unsigned 2012 will embark on a tour this summer spanning 14 top festivals across the UK and will also receive a £10,000 cash prize.

Chris Grayston, Events Director of Live & Unsigned commented:

“We’re all about originality, live ability and credibility. It’s a fantastic achievement to make it to the Grand Final at The O2, one of the best music venues in the world. Whatever happens it will be a great day for all the acts performing, whether they win or not.

''Last year half a dozen acts were signed to both label and management companies, after representatives were invited as guests.

''This marks a great opportunity for finalists being part of the final and the opportunity of playing festivals with some of the biggest act names in the industry! I can’t wait to see what the acts have got in store for us at the final it’s going to be terrific!”
