Motorists unhappy with a road trial in Ealing town centre are worried the council has already decided to make the controversial changes permanent.

In April, Ealing Council banned cars from turning right into Longfield Avenue from Uxbridge Road, and left from Longfield Avenue onto the Uxbridge Road.

The council say it's part of a road safety trial and since July drivers who break the restrictions have faced a penalty charge notice of £110 (reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days).

Many motorists are unhappy with the road changes and say it is causing traffic chaos throughout the centre.

James Kenny has complained to the council highlighting that congestion at Haven Green (heading South) has doubled and - St Leonards Road / Gordon Road junction regularly faces long tail-backs.

He's also spotted what he believes are permanent road signs and thinks the council may have pre-empted the results of the trial and decided to make the junction alterations permanent. He sent the above photo and said:

'' I took this pic of the new and what looks to be permanent sign at the Gordon Road / Carlton Road / St Leonard's Road junction. Odd that the Council are commissioning & erecting new signs for something which hasn't yet been confirmed as final?''

We asked Ealing council and a spokesperson said:

“The trial will continue until a decision can be made following a review. That review is currently underway and the final report will be available in November. We can then make a decision about the future of the scheme by the end of November.”

We have also asked the council how many motorists have been fined to date and how much money has been made - we are awaiting to hear.
